What Goes Around Comes Around: Mom Jeans

It's been a couple of weeks, but have no fear the 90s Revival Series lives on.

Today we will take another look at the world around us and move on from the shoes towards the newest jeans trend. We dig into the deepest, darkest depths of our mother's closets in search for those infamous mom jeans.

A couple years back, any daughter would dread seeing their mother walk out of the house wearing her 'mom jeans'. It was ugly, and unflattering before, but what has changed out minds now? Why are we wearing them?

More popular with the older crowd, Mom Jeans are characterized as tight, extra high waisted jeans, in a light wash denim shade. It cinches at the waist and if you're lucky, emphasizes your derriere in a flattering way. Styling these jeans are extremely tricky. One wrong turn and you're either stuck in the 90s, or the jeans just don't flatter anything. This post is not to turn you away from Mom Jeans. I say embrace the Mom Jean, work it, flaunt what you got! I hope this helps in the slightest to keep you present and just enough in the 90s.

Not all of us are tall, slim models similar to Kendall Jenner or Candice Swanepoel, but we can all aspire to dress like them.  Both are seen in light wash Mom Jeans and crop tops.

The biggest trend, and best way to style these jeans is to pair the jeans with a crop top. By wearing a crop top, your figure isn't hidden behind all the denim fabric. A break between the top and bottom gives a cheeky peek at the curve of your hips and lets your more feminine side show.

Don't overthink it. Keep it comfortable; that was the entire premise of the Mom Jeans.

Another option if you're not too keen on giving the world a peek of your midriff is tucking your top in. It's simple.

To the right, Miley Cyrus pairs her Mom Jeans with a plaid, red button up. It's a looser top therefore, to keep from being buried underneath her clothing, the tank is loosely tucked in. Not too tight, with just a little fabric hanging over the waistband; this technique keeps the two items of clothing apart while still together.

The waist is still emphasized without showing too much skin. The comfort level remains at its highest level.

I believe these are the two best ways to style this specific type of jean. Of course it is always up for debate and not set in stone. Remember to keep it simple and feminine. Don't over-think it and stay comfortable.
