Long Time No See Tommy

For the past few years old has become the new 'new'. Everywhere you turn someone is wearing something they either bought from a vintage shop, dug up from their parents' closet from back in the day, or just reviving the classics from designers. History does repeat itself and that includes fashion.

Although the Tommy Hilfiger brand hasn't been around for THAT long, it has been floating around long enough for it to make a comeback, 31 years to be exact. With the support of Mohan Murjani in 1985, Tommy Hilfiger was able to launch his newest clothing line debuting with a high-profile marketing campaign in New York City.

The brand reached popularity in the 90s when the style of that decade changed completely. Hilfiger changed his designs to fit the birth of looser clothing, oversized logos, and the relaxed fit to apply to the American 'preppy' lifestyle that surfaced. His brand also gained popularity amongst the hip-hop scene, as Snoop Dogg appeared on live television rocking a Tommy sweatshirt, encouraging fellow rappers and their fans to jump on the trend.

As time went on, the brand continued to thrive and grow as a fashion line. I feel as we reached the 2000s and the 2010s, Tommy held up its name, but it faded towards the back of people's minds as other brands became more mainstream.

Since "Old is the New New", I've seen Tommy a lot more frequently. It's classic tees and preppy styles have worked their ways back into today's mainstream vintage image and I LOVE IT.

I've always appreciated the old Tommy items I've owned, but I don't know if it's because I've seen it more frequently, but I am more and more drawn to my Tommy tees. They are as classic as the classic Tommy tees can get. I bought it in red and white, and I wear them at least once a week. Paired with any denim, the look is achieved with little to no difficulty.  I'm addicted.

The re-emergence of Tommy Hilfiger can thank for the TommyXGigi campaign that was recently announced. Tommy Hilfiger and supermodel Gigi Hadid have teamed up for a personal line of clothing, but that's for another post!

Countdown to the New Year Top 5 Trends of 2015: Red Lips

I'm back for part 2 of 5 of the Countdown to New Years Top Trends!! Today we discuss the abundance of red lips seen here, there and everywhere this past year.

Like I said, the red lip trend has been EVERYWHERE. I've seen it on the red carpets, on the streets of New York, parties at school, and even at casual Saturday afternoon lunch dates. The red lip has made it's way into our everyday lives. Previously, the red lip was only brought out for special occasions, or when you're ensuring that you look tip top one special night, never would I have seen so many people rocking the red lip mid-day shopping the streets of SoHo. At first I was a bit skeptical that the red lip lost it's authenticity, that it became a normal thing, and sure it has become normal in our everyday lives, but it's glam has yet to fade. The red lip, although extremely common, still holds it's WOW Factor, and still pulls a look together effortlessly.

I am a HUGE fan of the red lip trend. Any chance I get, you better believe that I will be wearing my MAC Viva Glam lipstick. We are best friends. Again, as I said about the jogger trend, I hope that the power of the everyday red lip continues into the new year.

As you can see, whether you're in New York, LA or Paris, or you have a special occasion versus a casual day out, the red lip trend works with just about any style. It can be girly, it can be edgy, it can be classy. I believe if you wear the red lip with confidence it goes with everything.

Looking for the perfect shade of red? My personal favourite red lipstick is Viva Glam by MAC, or the Nars lip pencil in Cruella depending on how bold you want to look.

Countdown to the New Year Top 5 Trends of 2015: Joggers

2015. For me, the year of many milestones, and many new adventures. I came. I saw. I conquered. Like any other year, I like to look back at everything I've done and experienced. As the year comes to a close we are bombarded with lists of the top whatevers of the year whether it's music, fashion,  or food, anything under the sun. Let's add another list to your to-read list; My Top Trends of 2015.


This is part one of the five part saga informing you all with what I believe are the best trends that made an appearance within the past year that I am oh so thankful I had the honour of embracing.


Today, we speak of joggers. You must be living under a rock if you've never worn them, let alone heard of them. In the most basic sense, they are any sort of pants that taper around the ankles. Made for men and women, varying in fabrics from jeans to sweats to cotton pants, joggers were and are everywhere. I like to think of it as a new twist to the skinny jean, but for every other type of pants. I find they are basically the same as regular pants, but something about them makes them easier to style. You can wear sneakers, sandals, flip flops, whatever shoe that you desire with these pants. Tops? Well loose, fitted, cropped, jackets, blazers, crew necks, honestly the possibilities are endless.  Dressed up or dressed down I love this trend. It brings a relaxed, go with the flow kind of vibe to a person. It gives off the feel of "I'm comfortable and relaxed, but I know what I'm doing and I will take charge". I truly hope this trend does not die out in 2015 and lasts for longer, I do not know how I survived without this trend before it appeared.

Joggers are easy, comfortable and cute. Model street style or lounging at home, the jogger is perfect for any occasion. I hope the jogger trend lasts because I love it!!

Adidas Is Back? Part Two

Last post we talked about Adidas' comeback in the fashion world with their classic sneakers. Today, we talk about how Adidas is seen in the streets and not just on the feet.

Everywhere I look, at school, in the city, on the fields, and even in magazines, someone is sporting the classic three stripe soccer trackpants. I've always been a huge fan of sweatpants. I'll take any excuse I can get to sit around all day and wear my sweats. It wasn't until I saw my brother wearing these sweatpants like they were the only thing in his closet did I realize how popular the sweatpants have become. Sure people have been wearing them all the time, but never have I seen them off the field. Now I've seen them on women in streets as if they are any old pair of jeans and I am loving it. It's a new twist. They are being worn as if they are black pants with three stripes but I haven't seen this trend styled so differently.

Up until now, it never occurred to me to think outside of the box with sweatpants. They don't just have to be lazy day apparel. Why not dress it up? Add some leather, add some colour, put on your favourite lipstick and go out tonight. Seeing the myriad ways that people all over are styling these sweatpants, I feel like there is no wrong way to wear them. Go crazy or stay put. Go fur or go wool. The possibilities are endless and I want to see how you style these pants.

Adidas Is Back?

Let's be honest, Adidas has never really been gone, but there has been an increase in Adidas on the streets. The iconic three stripe Adidas sneakers, and the iconic 3 stripe athletic pants everywhere you look you see someone sporting these two trends.

From model street style, to regular people going about their days. Guys and girls, we are all making our way to the closest Adidas to get out hands on these two items. Why don't we investigate these two pieces a little closer.

        

                   

                                                                                              

           




From one of my earliest fashion thoughts in middle school, I distinctly remember girls never wanting to be caught dead wearing sneakers with jeans, let alone a fancier look. Times have changed, or maybe my frame of mind has changed. Regardless, all around the social world and reality I see women wearing these black on white Adidas sneakers with rompers, boyfriend jeans, black pants, leather jackets, anything really, and one common factor between every look I see is that not one person looks ridiculous. Classy and well put together is all I can say about each and every person rocking this trend.

I think it's hard to wear this shoe poorly. Its quite versatile. Dressing it down like Kendall Jenner above with coloured jeans and a basic top, or girly it up with a romper and cute bag. I feel that you cannot go wrong when trying to style this trend.
